As millions across the UK celebrate Andy Murray’s Wimbledon triumph, Murdo Fraser MSP, who represents Dunblane as a regional list MSP, lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating Andy on his success.
The Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP praised Andy’s hard work and determination which was evident as he overcame the world number 1 and former champion Novak Djokovic in an exhausting final.
Murray becomes the first British man to lift the title since Fred Perry in 1936 and the first ever British male in the ‘open’ era.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Huge congratulations are due to Andy Murray whose victory has not just made Wimbledon history, but has cemented his place as one of the all-time greats of world tennis.
“Andy’s success has lifted the mood of whole the country, after all the close calls to finally have a British male Wimbledon champion is incredible and he deserves every ounce of praise.
“Andy is a model professional and hopefully his example will inspire the next generation of tennis players across Scotland and Britain.
“He is also a proud son of Dunblane and his achievements have given the town a real boost and I hope that this victory can act as a springboard to further success.”
