Mid-Scotland and Fife Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed the news that the interim operating base for the new Scottish Fire and Rescue Service will be based at Perth Community Fire Station and the interim headquarters of the Police Service of Scotland will be based at the Scottish Police College at Tulliallan Castle, Fife. MSP Murdo Fraser said: “I welcome the decision to base the interim headquarters for the Fire service in Perth and the new headquarters for the Police in Fife. These are the logistical and correct choices, as both Perth & Kinross and Fife are central locations and have good access links to the rest of Scotland. “It is important that the transition to the new headquarters in Perth and in Fife are both as quick and smooth as possible with minimal cost to the taxpayer. I am sure that our Fire and Police services will ensure that that is the case. “Perth & Kinross and Fife will welcome these decisions to be the interim bases and they will be first-class hosts. I am sure that the interim headquarters coming to Perth and Fife will only bolster the case for these services to be based in the area permanently. “For the new headquarters to be a success, it is important that they are based in a good central location. Perth is an ideal location as it a small city, reflecting both urban and rural fire service requirements and this will go some way to help fears that these new forces will focus too much on the Central Belt.”
