A new incentivisation scheme to restore landmark but now derelict buildings across Perth and Kinross could be used by the Drummond Arms Hotel in Crieff according to Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Liz Smith.
Perth and Kinross Council bosses have drawn up a hit list of key landmarks that they hope the £100,000 fund will help refurbish. The money would give businesses a helping hand by providing 100% rates relief for 12 months.
The iconic Drummond Arms Hotel has lain empty for many years and debris from the decaying structure recently fell onto the street below. Community groups in Crieff have been working to raise money needed to transform the building into a community asset.
Commenting Liz Smith MSP said;
“The Drummond Arms Hotel in Crieff is a fantastic building but one that is fast becoming an eyesore and decaying timbers recently fell onto the street below which fortunately caused no injuries.
“The new Conservative administration at Perth and Kinross Council are showing the type of innovative thinking that has been sorely lacking and this stimulant package could provide another avenue for returning the Drummond Arms to its former glory.
“Across Perth and Kinross there are a number of prominent buildings that have lain empty for far too long and it’s good to see the council announce new measures to tackle this problem.”
