Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has called on online retailers to charge fairer delivery fees for goods travelling to highland and rural areas.
A report by Citizens Advice Scotland has shown that one million Scots are being ripped off by unfair delivery charges.
Ten per cent of online retailers refuse to deliver to the PH15 post code, in Perth and Kinross.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Residents in Highland Perthshire already suffer with substandard broadband connections and this news furthers the notion that rural households are penalised because of their location.
“However, this news does bolster the case for shopping local as there are no delivery charges.
“Nonetheless, there are inevitably products that cannot be sourced close to home and in these instances internet retailers are very useful. However, expensive charges and slow delivery times are negating any possible benefits from shopping online.
“This report showed that nearly a fifth of all Scots are affected by either slow or expensive delivery, this situation must change.”
