As a Scottish history enthusiast Murdo Fraser MSP has given his support to Dunkeld’s inclusion within the Scottish Battlefield Inventory.
In 1689 Dunkeld witnessed house-to-house fighting between Jacobite and Government forces and now is the latest site to join Perthshire’s three other protected battlefields.
The Scottish Battlefield Inventory was set up four years ago as a guide to help protect and preserve sites of a historical nature.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“As an area of Scottish historical importance Mid-Scotland and Fife stands above almost any other Scottish region. Both Perth and Kinross and Stirling have four protected battlefields with Fife hosting the Second Battle of Inverkeithing.
“The Scottish Battlefield Inventory is a great tool for protecting Scotland’s rich and often bloody history.
“The site at Dunkeld is more than worthy of its inclusion within the list. If the Jacobites had won at Dunkeld the path lay open to both Perth and Stirling which could have turned the tide during the first Jacobite rising.
“From the Picts to the Romans to the Scottish Wars of Independence, Perthshire houses some of the best Scottish historical sites and I thoroughly support Dunkeld’s inclusion within the Inventory.”
