Mid-Scotland & Fife Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser has praised the quality of Fife’s beaches following Keep Scotland Beautiful’s announcement that 14 of Scotland’s 61 beaches to be given awards for high standards of cleanliness, safety, and water quality are in Fife. Furthermore, six of Scotland’s eight beaches that have been awarded the internationally-acclaimed Blue Flag are in Fife. A beach site can only be awarded blue flag status if it passes 32 environmental criteria. A full list of the all the beaches can be found here: http://coastal.keepscotlandbeautiful.org/ Murdo Fraser said: “It is welcome news for Fife that we have 14 beaches that merit awards and this will help attract even more tourists to our area. People in Fife, Scotland and across the UK can come and enjoy our local beaches with the knowledge that Fife beaches are among the cleanest and safest in the UK. “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Fife Council, local organisations and the communities for all their hard work and efforts to make this possible. The Seaside & Blue Flag Awards for our beaches is a welcome award and underlines the quality of the beaches we have along the Fife coast. “All we need now is some more of the summer weather to return to make our Fife beaches the perfect spot to enjoy it.”
