Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has expressed his disappointment at news that this year’s T in the Park will be the last held at the Balado site in Kinross.
A “top secret” new site is said to have been earmarked for the 2015 gig with Stirling and Loch Lomond tipped as possible locations.
The annual three-day festival began in 1994 at Strathclyde Park, in Lanarkshire, before moving to the bigger site in 1997 and attracts crowds of up to 85,000 people.
This year’s event is to be held between July 11 and July 13.
Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“There have been concerns in recent years over the safety of hosting the event above the BP Forties pipeline but it is still a real disappointment to see Scotland’s biggest music festival move away from Kinross.
“The event provides a massive economic boost to the area and local retailers and hoteliers will no doubt feel the impact of not staging the event next year.
“Kinross is still a fantastic location for events and I would hope that the area’s track record for successfully delivering T in the Park since 1997 will attract other promoters to the region.”
