Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has urged constituents to get involved in volunteering at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
The 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will be the biggest sporting and cultural event Scotland has ever hosted and presents a unique opportunity for Scots to take part in a once in a lifetime experience.
The search for up to 15,000 volunteers begins on the 14th of January, with organisers placing a premium on friendly, welcoming people as opposed to those with previous experience in volunteering.
Applicants have just under seven weeks to go to www.glasgow2014.com/volunteer and complete their online form with a final closing date of Thursday, 28th February.
Around 25,000 successful applicants will be invited for informal interviews from April 2013 onwards. Around 1000 interviews a week will take place at the purpose-built Volunteer Centre until the end of the year.
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser said:
“I would like to take this opportunity to encourage constituents across Mid-Scotland and Fife to get involved and make a real difference to the success of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
“The 2014 games represents a massive opportunity for Scotland to market itself to the world with the right volunteers we can illustrate what makes Scotland great.
“I have met so many talented individuals in Perthshire who all have the potential to add something extra to the games and in turn receive an enriching experience.
“With regular trains and buses between Perth, Fife, Stirling and Glasgow, volunteers have every opportunity to take part in ‘Scotland’s Games.’”
