Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser believes that the latest increase in Scottish employment figures are demonstrative of the success of UK Government policies aimed at getting people back to work.
Figures have revealed, the number of Scots in work has increased by 75,000 over the last year.
Official statistics show that over the period July to September a total of 2,547,000 people were in employment, an increase of 16,000 on the previous quarter.
The employment rate in Scotland has now risen for 10 months in a row, with 72.8% of the population in work.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“UK Government initiatives to make work pay are returning results especially for residents across Perth and Kinross, Fife, Stirling and Clackmannanshire.
“By increasing the personal allowance, the UK Government is reducing the tax burden for working Scots which gives ordinary people more money in their back pockets.
“The number of Scots claiming jobseeker’s allowance is now at its lowest level in four and a half years, which should also be commended.
“Current UK Government efforts to balance the economy appear to be working but there can be no place for complacency.”
