Following the change in the official definition of a pothole within Perth and Kinross, Tory MSP, Liz Smith has hit out at the reasoning behind the decision.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
"The decision to change the definition of a pothole from 40mm to 60mm is highly questionable.
“We know that there have been extensive complaints from drivers and insurers about the current extent of potholes so reducing the number of broken road surfaces officially classified as a pothole will only make things worse. To add to this, the danger of a pothole is not all about its depth. It is just as much about its location and whether cars swerve to avoid it.
“It is time that there was some common sense applied to this serious problem which angers so many people in our local community. The AA and the RAC have both warned about the dangers of potholes and this will create more concerns.
“Perhaps those who are employed to measure the potholes would be better employed filling them in.”
