Plans to remove traffic wardens in Stirling have been postponed.
They were due to be removed by Police Scotland at the end of last week, but Stirling council has secured a postponement. Talks will now take place to find a longer term solution.
Some councils had been considering possible legal action over what they saw as an unlawful Police Scotland decision.
However, an undertaking has now been given by Police Scotland that the existing arrangements will be maintained until the end of April.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“This is a welcome step from Police Scotland, but it is extremely disappointing that councils have had to go to the extreme of threatening legal action in order to achieve a compromise.
“These changes have been foisted upon Local Authorities who have had little time to react and this reprieve will end what has been weeks of uncertainty.
“Hopefully over the next two months Police Scotland can positively engage with Stirling council in order to find a long term solution to parking enforcement as it is an extremely important local policing issue.”
