Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has praised both Stirling Council and Stirlingshire residents for hitting Scottish Government set recycling targets.
Stirling, Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Perth & Kinross recycled the highest proportion of household waste at over 55%.
Stirling Council is currently run in coalition between the Conservatives and Labour.
The Scottish Government's long-term aim is to recycle 70% of Scotland's waste by 2025.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;
“Stirling Council is leading the way in terms of recycling household waste. The Conservative-Labour coalition has made real strides in improving the level of waste that can be recycled and should be commended for their approach.
“Residents in Stirling have taken a proactive role in helping reduce the amount of household waste going to landfill. A co-operative approach between the local authority and residents is paying real dividends.
“Nonetheless, despite this positive news more can always done and it is still worrying that 45% of all household waste is not recycled or put to another use. As resources become scarcer, recycling will take on renewed importance and hopefully Scotland can lead the world in this respect.”
