MSP for Mid-Scotland and Fife Murdo Fraser has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament calling on fellow MSP’s to support Scottish Athletes competing in Team GB ahead of the Winter Olympics.
Stirling athletes Eve Muirhead, Lauren Gray and Michael Goodfellow are all aiming to bring back gold for Team GB in both the men’s and women’s curling.
23 year old Eve Muirhead is competing in her second games and last year became the youngest skip to lead a team to world gold.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Stirling is proving to be a successful starting point for many Scottish curlers, with thirty percent of Team GB curlers coming from the city.
“Stirling University’s Institute for Sport has been central to the preparation of Scottish Winter Olympic athletes which underlines the importance of the area to winter sport.
“It is crucial that SportScotland and the Scottish Government use the increased profile of the Winter Olympics to help encourage the next generation of Scottish curlers and skiers.”
