Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has hit out at SNP Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Kenny MacAskill for failed to act and stall the decision so that real public consultation can take place. Police Scotland are to close the control room in both Stirling an Glenrothes and that that the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are recommending the closure of the fire control room at Thornton in Fife. Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fifesaid: “The SNP’s finger prints are all over the Police call centre closure plans with SNP’s centralisation agenda seeing yet more vital services cut. “It is not acceptable for Scottish Government Ministers to hide behind operational matter. SNP Ministers should act and stall this decision and instruct Police Scotland to carry out a credible consultation on the proposal.” “Kenny MacAskill has tried to pass the buck on Police call center closures blaming everyone from Police Scotland to Westminster even when this decision is 100% made in Scotland. It’s time Kenny MacAskill took responsibility for the Police call centre closures and started to directly address the many questions and growing concerns. “It is clear that increasingly SNP MSPs are showing they have little confidence in Kenny MacAskill and the process which has been used to reach the decision to close Police call centres.”
