Liz Smith MSP has welcomed the further £100 million of NDP investment in school infrastructure announced by John Swinney MSP and has called on Ministers to put rebuilding Tulloch and Kinross primary schools at the top of the list.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
“It is welcome news that due to Scottish Government underspends a further £100 million of NDP investment is to be made available for school infrastructure projects.
“The school estate across Perthshire and Kinross-shire is reviewed on an annual basis with the current condition of primary school buildings showing four local schools rated as poor, 58 as satisfactory, and eleven as good.
“Currently an independent review is being carried out to assess the school buildings at both Tulloch and Kinross primary schools. Despite being little more than 50 years old, both buildings are rapidly reaching the end of their lives. It is clear that both schools need replacing in the near future, however, at present Perth & Kinross Council only have the finances available to deliver one new primary school.
“A recent Parliamentary Question I tabled has shown that since the launch of Scotland’s Schools for the Future Programme in 2009 Perth & Kinross Council have received around £2.5 million to help fund investment in new schools, one of the lowest levels of funding awarded to any Council in Scotland.
“I have written to John Swinney MSP and Mike Russell MSP to make the case for further funding to invest in Perthshire and Kinross-shire school infrastructure.”
