A former Smart Parking employee has claimed that newly installed parking meters at Kinnoull Street were only added to dupe unsuspecting motorists and drive up revenue from spurious Parking Charge Notices.
The employee, who didn’t wish to be named, wrote to Murdo Fraser detailing the problems caused by the new system and the motivation for its introduction.
Murdo Fraser has called this latest evidence “damming” and has requested an immediate meeting with Ben Johnston, the Managing Director of Smart Parking to discuss these allegations.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP:
“This new evidence will confirm suspicions many constituents have had that changes were made to Kinnoull Street to raise money rather than improve customer service.
“Smart Parking have been far from forthcoming in responding to the several letters I have written and I am now calling for a meeting with their Managing Director to discuss these new claims.
“Improving customer service must be at the heart of their business otherwise the town centre will struggle as a result of reducing footfall.
“I would encourage Smart Parking to resist from installing the same machines at their Mill Street location until the kinks have been worked out, otherwise motorists will start to actively avoid the city centre.”
