Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed the publication of the shortlist for the £5.5m Crianlarich bypass construction contract. Transport Scotland has named five construction companies who have been invited to bid for the £5.5m contract
The companies shortlisted for the work are Balfour Beatty, John Paul Construction, RJ McLeod, I&H Brown and Graham Construction.
Design work on the 10 mile (16km) section of the road from Tarbet to Inverarnan will begin this month and is expected to take two years.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“The economic consequences of the Crianlarich bypass will be significant for both the local area and road traffic moving into the Highlands from the central belt. High Quality transport links to and from the Highlands are essential for its continued economic development.
“Last week a report was published by the Accounts Commission which revealed that a third of local or non-trunk roads were in an unacceptable condition. Poor infrastructure damages the economy.
“Hopefully, this new route can lead to a more pedestrian friendly village centre in Crianlarich.”
