Following pressure from Murdo Fraser MSP, Scottish Water have confirmed that Tummel Bridge residents will receive compensatory bottled water until they are connected to the mains supply.
In their letter, Scottish Water also confirmed that they aim to have the first customer connected to the public supply by Monday the 17th of November.
The water supply to around 50 households in Tummel Bridge is infected with the harmful bacteria’s E Coli and Salmonella which has resulted in residents having to use bottled water for cooking, drinking and cleaning.
Murdo Fraser has welcomed this move and hopes Tummel Bridge’s four year wait for clean water will soon be over.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“It is only right that Scottish Water have taken the decision to supply residents in Tummel Bridge with bottled water and I welcome this move.
“The cost of buying bottled water for cooking, cleaning and drinking was a strain on budgets and although I would like to have seen this introduced sooner, it is nonetheless great news.
“Tummel Bridge residents who have survived on bottled water for nearly four years will be delighted that their battle to have mains supplied water is nearly over and I can imagine no better Christmas gift than clean water.”
