Alexander Stewart, has today added his support to a motion presented to Perth and Kinross Council calling for the Scottish Government to pay the bill for the upgrade of the A9/A85 junction rather than expect Perth and Kinross Council to borrow the money.
Cllr Stewart said,
“It is completely unreasonable for the Scottish Government to expect Perth and Kinross Council, and the council tax payers in Perth and Kinross, to foot the bill for the upgrade of this junction which is part of the trunk road network.
“I am writing to John Swinney MSP to ask him to intervene in this matter and to ensure that the multi- million pound bill for this junction upgrade is met from central funding. That would then allow Perth and Kinross Council to focus our financial resources on other vital schemes.
“The MSPs elected to represent Perth and Kinross in the Scottish Parliament should be fighting to ensure we get our fair share of spending. There are other transport schemes across the country which the Scottish Government is paying for. We want this junction upgrade given the same importance in recognition of the important role it will play in the national trunk road network.”
