Scottish Conservatives have called for free tickets to be made available to local school children to attend events during the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Liz Smith MSP, Shadow Minister for Sport and the Commonwealth Games said: “It is very welcome news to see that ticket demand for the Commonwealth Games has so far outstripped supply. “After the spectacular success of the London Olympics, attention now focuses on preparations for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.“Watching some of world’s greatest athletes go for Gold, these young Scots will form a huge part of what could be the most enduring legacy of these Games; a generation inspired and motivated to achieve their best in the classroom and out on the playing field.“The organising committee of the 2012 London Olympics ensured that over 125,000 free tickets were made available to schoolchildren during the 2012 London Olympics. This meant that 90% of the capital's 10 to 18-year-old students had a chance of seeing an event. “Some 125,000 free tickets were made available to school children to attend events at the London Olympics and Paralympic Games.“I believe it is vital we see a similar ticketing strategy put in place for the Commonwealth Games to make sure that the next generation of Scots are right at the heart of the action.”
