Following news of Sainsbury’s decision to pull plans for their Perth store, Murdo Fraser MSP has questioned whether the planned Pitlochry store will ever built and has called on Sainsbury’s to clarify plans in Highland Perthshire.
Speaking on behalf of Sainsbury’s their spokesmen Euan Glen said today:
“Regarding Sainsbury’s proposals in Pitlochry, the two schemes are different and separate and the Perth decision was focussed on the particular issues around the Perth site. We reaffirm our recent statements that Sainsbury’s are not in a position to develop our Pitlochry site over the next two years, but Perth & Pitlochry are separate developments and we can proceed with the Pitlochry scheme without the Perth store.”
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“After shelving the planned Sainsbury’s development in Perth many local people will be rightfully asking whether the Pitlochry store will ever go ahead.
“Sainsbury’s must clarify their plans in Highland Perthshire as any uncertainty is unhelpful for both residents and local businesses.
“It is approaching 4 years since Sainsbury’s received planning permission for the Pitlochry store and local residents want to know whether the store is going ahead or not.”
