The importance of good broadband connection in rural communities was raised this week when Liz Smith MSP and Conservative Westminster Candidate for Ochil and South Perthshire, Luke Graham, visited Monzie Joinery in Crieff to hear about the importance of local connectivity.
Liz and Luke met with David Crichton, of Monzie Joinery Ltd.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
“The £100.8 million that the UK Conservative Government has provided to Digital Scotland will help take superfast broadband to some of the most remote locations in the country, who would otherwise be left in the digital slow lane. The UK already does more business online than any other European country and widespread access to superfast speeds will provide a welcome boost to the Scottish economy.
“It is vitally important that this technology and infrastructure is made available to homes and businesses across Perthshire and Kinross-shire and I have sought to lobby Ministers to priorities investment for rural communities. I will continue to make the case for additional investment to seek support for community broadband solutions.
Luke Graham said:
"It was fantastic to spend the morning with David and his team. It is clear we need to do more to help connect hard-working local businesses through broadband and mobile connections"
"Connectivity is vital for our long-term economic well-being. Broadband and mobile coverage does not only benefit local business, but also provides educational and healthcare opportunities to the wider community in places like Strathearn."
David Crichton, of Monzie Joinery Ltd said:
"Broadband is now an essential part of modern infrastructure, and provision of cutting edge services makes a huge difference to commerce and productivity, as well as wider quality of life."
