Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has expressed concern at planned increases in energy prices from SSE, consumers north of the border will face a 7% increase in their energy bills.
SSE has claimed that an increase in the wholesale price of gas in addition to higher network charges and government levies has resulted in this latest price rise.
SSE have indicated that Transmission costs have increased by 10% and government levies have risen by 13%.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Bringing power to the grid from remote wind farms is expensive, and as long as the Scottish Government keeps approving onshore wind farms then these costs will only continue to rise.
“Green incentives also form a significant part of your average energy bill and the combination of this with transmission charges, is contributing to increasing energy prices.
“The Scottish Government has no control over global gas prices, however it does control its own energy policy and the cost of the green agenda. A lack of balance in energy policy is contributing to the ever-increasing number of residents being forced into fuel poverty.”
