Murdo Fraser MSP who is convenor of the Scottish Parliaments’ Economy Energy and Tourism committee, has called on the Scottish Government to provide tailored support for Scotland’s small and medium sized enterprises.
A new report from the Federation of Small Businesses examines the experience of more than 650 of Scotland’s smallest employers, with the FSB calling for support in recruitment and employment processes.
The report shows that micro-businesses make up 27% of all private sector jobs.
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser said:
“Within Mid-Scotland and Fife micro-businesses are integral to the local economy of rural towns. Tourism in Highland Perthshire is driven by enterprising small restaurants and boutique shops which offer tourists unique shopping experiences.
“Furthermore, these businesses also provide flexibility for part time employees, as well as providing a mixture of entry level and skilled jobs.
“Small enterprises and family businesses often feel over looked by the Scottish Government, despite their tremendous contribution to the economy. The Scottish Government needs to be more inclusive and innovative in their approach to smaller businesses.
“Perthshire supports a large range of small firms from innovative tech companies to small shops and cafés. The Scottish Government must furnish these enterprises with the correct apparatus that allows sustainable growth and diversification.”
