Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has reacted with disappointment and concern at the closure of two Police Call Centres in Stirling and Glenrothes.
Police Scotland are centralising their call centre operations by closing hubs in Stirling, Glenrothes, Aberdeen Queen Street, Aberdeen Bucksburn, Dumfries and Glasgow. The restructuring phase will take place over the next two years and although Police Scotland have ruled out compulsory redundancies there will undoubtedly be voluntary job losses.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Prior to Police Scotland’s creation the Scottish Government was warned that a single force would lead to an overly centralised service and this move is doing little to ease these concerns.
“The uncertainty caused by streamlining call centres will undoubtedly distress workers in both Stirling and Glenrothes who are now unsure of their futures.
“Finally, this move forms part of a worrying trend which includes the proposed removal of police station public counters and the removal of traffic wardens. If policing is to work it must be conducted at a local level.”
