Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has welcomed the news that Police Scotland has extended the consultation period on the closure of police station counters. Under the current proposals public counters at Police Stations in Crieff, Kinross, Cardenden, Oakley, Burntisland, East Neuk (Anstruther), Howe of Fife (Auchtermuchty), Taycoast (Newport) and at Tullibody. The Mid Scotland & Fife has called on local residents to make their voice heard by emailing publiccounterreview@scotland.pnn.police.uk Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fifesaid: “I welcome the fact that Police Scotland have agreed to extend the consultation period regarding the closure of local police station counters. “A number of local residents have expressed concern regarding to proposals to close public counters at Police Stations and I hope this will provide an opportunity to make their views known. “Under the current proposals public counter service at stations will be dramatically reduced or in some cases totally removed. Under the current proposals public counters at Police Stations in Crieff, Kinross, Cardenden, Oakley, Burntisland, East Neuk (Anstruther), Howe of Fife (Auchtermuchty), Taycoast (Newport) and at Tullibody. “In a number of cases it has been proposed that a number of Police Stations will have no public counter provision whatsoever - this will clearly impact on community policing and ultimately many people will see this leading to local Police Stations being closed. “I hope that Police Scotland will seriously reconsider their proposal and not move to leave many communities without any police station counter provision.”
