Mid-Scotland & Fife Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed progress being made on the planned investment to improve access to Perth train station. A report by Jacobs Engineering UK on behalf of Network Rail to Perth and Kinross Council's planning department outlines plans to install new lifts and a footbridge to provide step free access to all platforms at the station. Last year in an answer to a parliamentary question to Murdo Fraser, the Scottish Government stated that the Department for Transport’s “Access for All” funding will see work commence in Perth station in late 2012. As well as work to improve access, Murdo Fraser wants to use this opportunity to see plans being drawn up for a large refurbishment of the station. Murdo Fraser said: “I welcome progress being made to see necessary upgrades to Perth train station. It is important that we see new lifts and a footbridge to provide step free access to all platforms. “Notwithstanding these planned improvements, I want to see ambitious plans for Perth train station. Just now we are seeing a massive investment into Edinburgh Waverley and I want to see some energy put into Perth station so that Perth commuters can benefit and see new life into this grand station. “Perth train station is a grand Victorian building and I believe it can be transformed into one of the best train stations in Scotland if there is a clear vision for it.”
