Newly crowned Scotch Pie World Champions, Murray Bakery in Perth, have received special praise in Parliament thanks to a motion submitted by Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser.
The Conservative MSP has called on fellow Parliamentarians to congratulate Perth’s award winning bakery and attached below is a copy of the motion lodged at Holyrood which has already achieved cross-party support.
Title: Murray Bakers of Perth Takes World Scotch Pie Title
That the Parliament congratulates Murray Bakers of Perth, which has recently been named winner of the 16th World Scotch Pie Championship; commends the hard work of the staff who have helped produce Scotland’s tastiest pie; understands that a record 100 butchers and bakers entered the competition, which was judged by a panel of 50 experts, including the Bay City Roller, Les McKeown; notes that the competition has been running for 16 years and aims to highlight the high quality of artisan products made by the nation's butchers and bakers; recognises that the last winner from Perthshire was in 2004, when Sugar and Spice of Auchterarder took the title, and wishes Murray Bakers of Perth all the best for the future.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;
“The staff at Murray Bakers have worked extremely hard to win this award and it is great for them to get some well-deserved national acclaim.
“It is just over ten years since a Perthshire bakery last took this prize and it is great to see it return to the “Big County”.
“2015 marks Visit Scotland’s ‘Year of Food and Drink’ and I can think of no better tourist attraction than a chance to get your hands on the world’s best Scotch pie.
“Local residents have known for some time that Murray’s pies were something special and regular customers are known to buy two at a time such is their appeal and I would like to wish the bakery all the best for the future.”
