Parliamentary motions have been lodged in the Scottish Parliament by MSP Murdo Fraser to highlight the celebrations being put on in Blairgowrie, Coupar Angus and Perth to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this weekend. The Mid-Scotland and Fife Conservative MSP is looking forward to the Jubilee celebrations and has praised communities and organisers throughout Perth and Perthshire who are putting on events. The three motions can be found at ‘note to editors’. Murdo Fraser said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the organisers who are putting on events in Perth & Kinross. I am sure that the Jubilee celebrations will make this a weekend to remember and bring the whole community together. “We have a strong community spirit in our Perthshire towns and villages and we are lucky to have so many organisations, businesses and volunteers who want to celebrate the Jubilee and bring our Perthshire communities closer together. “Coupar Angus will host the Jubilee Lark in the Park on Saturday 2 June at Larghan Park and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved to mark the Jubilee in Coupar Angus. It will be a full day of events with many local groups contributing to the Jubilee celebrations. “Perth is putting on one of the biggest events in the UK to mark the Jubilee, with the 1,000 Pipers Parade and the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people running in kilts during the Perth Kilt Run. There is so much going on at the North Inch on Saturday 2 June and we can also use this weekend to once again celebrate Perth gaining official city status. “I would like to thank the Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Council and the Joint Festival Committee for all their efforts in organising celebrations on the Wellmeadow on Sunday 3 June. Perth celebrates HM Queen’s Diamond JubileeThat the Parliament welcomes the events planned across Scotland to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations; notes that Perth will be hosting one of the largest civic celebrations in the UK to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, taking place on Saturday 2 June at the North Inch; recognises that Perth’s celebrations include a 1,000 Pipers Parade where 1,000 pipers from the UK and around the world will parade through the city, the Perth Kilt Run where an attempt will be made to break the Guinness World Record for the most people running in kilts, the Big Jubilee Lunch, a Spitfire Display and many other events; welcomes Perth being awarded city status as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, which will boost the local economy and enhance the city’s national and international standing; believes that Perth has a special connection to the Royal Family due to Scone being the historic location where Scots Kings were crowned and thanks HM Queen for 60 years as Scotland’s Head of State.
