Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has called on Perth & Kinross Council to encourage more visitors to shop in the city this Christmas and for steps to be taken to promote Perthshire as a key Christmas shopping location.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
“The closure of the Forth Road Bridge until the New Year is a very serious matter which will cause huge disruption. It is clear that the bridge closure during the busy Christmas shopping period will also see many residents north of the Forth not shopping in Edinburgh and therefore looking to shop locally.
“Perthshire and Kinross-shire is home to many of Scotland’s hidden shopping gems and has been consistently rated as a great place to visit and shop.
“The closure of the Forth Road Bridge is bad news for the local area especially commuters to Edinburgh. However, I hope the message can go out that Perthshire and Kinross-shire is open for business and that this presents an opportunity to showcase local businesses.”
