Just 3 hours after being put up, prominent “No thanks” signage near Perth’s Broxden roundabout has been vandalised, in what has been labelled a desperate and last-ditch attempt to interfere with the democratic process.
Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser expressed his disappointment at the vandalism, and his fear that this latest incident is a result of some desperate Yes supporters resorting to dirty tricks.
Similar cases have been reported in Aberdeenshire, and the Police in Perth have been informed.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Whilst there is no evidence as yet to prove who did this, I think most reasonable people will draw their own conclusions.
“The destruction of these posters illustrates the dirty tactics some Yes supporters are turning to, and I’m sure acts like this will only strengthen the resolve of No voters.
“With the polls showing a strengthening of the lead for No, it is perhaps no surprise that those who support the break-up of the UK are becoming increasingly desperate.
“Everyone is entitled to their view on independence and both sides of the debate must be heard. However, Better Together have to be free to campaign without fear of intimidation.”
