Scottish Conservative Candidate for the Perth City Centre ward by-election, Chris Ahern has today urged Perth and Kinross Council to take action to alleviate parking issues across the city in order to make Perth a better place in which to live and work.
Chris said today,
" I have been really struck by the number of people who have raised concerns with me about parking in Perth. It is a real issue in residential areas and also within the city centre itself. I am concerned that the SNP run council are just not getting to grips with this very real problem. We need to encourage shoppers to use car parks such as the one at the South Inch which is often half empty by making it pay on exit. We also perhaps need to look at bus routes to make that car park into a version of the park and ride to encourage motorists to park there. That may alleviate some of the problems experienced in residential areas around Perth.
"If elected I would push for a survey to be carried out across the city to clearly map out the parking hotspots and ensure a plan is put in place to try and alleviate some of the problems. The local council must take a proactive approach to this problem."
