Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed efforts from Ofgem to help vulnerable customers by raising awareness of the Priority Service Register.
The Priority Service Register is a list of domestic customers who are of pensionable age, disabled or chronically sick. Each energy supplier has their own list and is required to provide free help to people who add themselves or are referred, to their list.
The type of services available to PSR customers include, advanced notice of planned power cuts for customers who depend on their energy supply for medical reasons, a password protection scheme, bill nominee scheme, the replacement of prepayment meters when situated in hard to reach areas, free annual gas appliance safety checks and the provision of bills in larger print or braille.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“I wanted to take this opportunity to help raise awareness of the Priority Service Register and the obligations of energy suppliers to help vulnerable customers.
“Ofgem are trying to simplify the process for being placed on the Priority Service Register as many customers are unaware of the register or the benefits of being placed on it. Ofgem will also make available the contact details of all UK energy suppliers.
“Energy suppliers must make every effort to improve the services they provide and hopefully raising awareness of the register will help more customers make use of it.
“The Priority Services Register is a great resource for vulnerable customers who are in need of that extra support and as always I am available for all constituents to assist them in joining the list.”
