Mid-Scotland & Fife Conservative MSP Murdo has welcomed news that construction work on a new visitor centre at the site of the battle of Bannockburn will begin in the summer. In 2009, Murdo Fraser was the first MSP to call for a campaign to have a new visitor centre to be open in time to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the battle, which will be June 2014. The construction schedule will see the current visitor centre demolished in the autumn. MSP Murdo Fraser said: “I welcome the development moving forward and this is good news for Bannockburn, Stirling and the whole of Scotland. “I believe that the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn must be commemorated and a new Bannockburn Heritage Centre is fitting to mark the anniversary in 2014. “It is welcome news that the Scottish Government has supported my call for a new centre. This is good news for Stirling and the surrounding area as we will see a new and better visitor centre and this will bring in thousands of more visitors to the area.”
