Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed the online publication of soldiers diaries from the First World War.
The National Archives alongside hundreds of volunteers have digitalised around 20% of 1.5 million diary pages, all of which will be made available online via Operation War Diary.
The project is part of the government's World War One centenary programme.
By the end of the war 8000 men from the Perthshire based Black Watch regiment had given their lives to the conflict.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Operation War Diary is a fantastic project that will allow current generations to better understand the battlefield experiences of their ancestors.
“The diaries of several Scottish regiments will be made available online, including the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, the Royal Scots and the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.
“Nearly 8000 men from the Black Watch gave their life to the conflict and this project will hopefully serve as a timely reminder of our shared history and help us commemorate the contribution made by thousands of men from this area.”
