Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed the pledges from new ScotRail franchise operator Arbellio to improve both Perth and Stirling Railway station and has called on the Dutch firm to honour the promises they have made to improve passenger service across the region.
Arbellio is a subsidiary of the Dutch national rail company Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) and has a history with rail travel dating back over 175 years.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Hopefully, Arbellio will bring a fresh approach to rail travel as services in Mid-Scotland and Fife can definitely be improved.
“Perth and Stirling railway stations are both fantastic examples of Victorian and Georgian architecture and have tremendous potential that is waiting to be unlocked.
“For too long Perth Station was neglected and it has recently underwent a series of improvements but much more can be done to improve the retail offering at the station. Improving customer experience and journey times could give Perth the tools it needs to draw more businesses and tourists to the area.
“As well as improving the level of customer service Arbellio must make it a priority to improve the speed of services between Perth, Stirling and the Highlands as thus far the Scottish Government is failing to meet its journey time reduction targets.”
