A9 road safety campaigner and MSP for Mid-Scotland and Fife, Murdo Fraser, has welcomed what he sees as a crucial intervention from the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents who have backed calls for the accelerated dualling of the A9.
Earlier today, in an open letter to the Scottish Government ASPS President and Chief Superintendent David O’Connor has said that, “While I welcome the Scottish government position that work on making the A9 dual carriageway from Perth to Inverness will start early - in 2015 -2016, I have to ask - is this early enough?"
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Make no mistake this is a significant and welcome intervention in the battle to have the A9 dualling works accelerated, and the Scottish Government must take note.
“The officers that David O’Connor represents have to deal with the fallout of serious collisions on the A9 on a regular basis, which makes the ASPS extremely well placed to comment.
“This latest voice calling for the acceleration of dualling works adds to a growing chorus who are already making the case for work to be brought forward.
“The people of Perthshire and the Highlands cannot wait another 12 years to have a fully dualled road and I hope the Scottish Government pays real attention to what is a serious concern.”
