Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP, Murdo Fraser, has recently met with Scottish stone processor and supplier, Tradstocks, to discuss the state of the industry and how government can support it in its growth.
Tradstocks are one of Scotland’s major suppliers of natural stone for both construction and landscaping. In April of this year the business completed a new factory and dispatch area in Thornhill and employs over 40 people.
Murdo Fraser hopes to see an increase in demand for indigenous Scottish stone and Tradstocks new factory will be able to support an increase in demand of Scottish stone.
Commenting after the visit Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“It was great to meet with the directors at Tradstocks who kindly showed me around their new premises and gave me an insight into their business and its importance within the local community.
“In providing locally sourced and locally cut Scottish stone Tradstocks are offering a product that is almost unique in Scotland and it is important that politicians work with producers to support the stone industry and help it grow.
“Ensuring that there are enough opportunities for apprentices entering the trade will be critical over the next couple of years and it is welcome to see a local employer offer apprenticeships."
Peter Stewart, Managing Director of Tradstocks, said:
"All at Tradstocks welcome the support of our elected representatives and we appreciate Murdo Fraser MSP taking the time to visit, tour the site and meet some of our team.
"We are an innovative company based near Stirling and now have the capacity to process and supply high volumes of natural stone for building and landscaping. We believe that with thoughtful, supportive procurement there is the potential to re-establish the Scottish stone industry and by doing so createmany specialised manufacturing jobs. Scotland’s stone is a unique and sustainable material and by using it on our new build homes and streets we can ensure Scotland maintains its genuine appeal and character for the Scottish population to value and visitors to enjoy.”
