Local MSP Murdo Fraser has urged residents in Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Clackmannanshire and Fife to help in a campaign to see better mobile phone connectivity brought to Mid-Scotland and Fife.
The Countryside Alliance is promoting a smartphone app that tests mobile signal strength. The data collected feeds into a map and will enable consumers to make an informed choice on which operator will provide them with the best coverage.
Despite paying the same for their mobile phone contract as someone who lives in an urban area, rural residents often suffer from lost connections and poor phone connectivity.
The ‘RootMetrics’ app can be downloaded from both the ‘app store’ and on ‘Google Play’.
Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Residents in my region, particularly Highland Perthshire, suffer from poor or sometimes non-existent mobile phone signals. When coupled with the substandard level of internet connectivity it becomes only too clear that Highland Perthshire residents are getting a raw deal.
“By taking part in this RootMetrics app survey, residents will have the chance to map out the areas in Scotland which are in need of most help.
“I strongly believe that if customers are parting with hard earned cash for a service, it must be delivered to the same standard as those in urban areas. We must pressure the network operators to upgrade and improve their services and by identifying just how bad the connectivity is, we can do this.
