Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has called on the residents of Perth and Kinross to get involved in the process to name a national tree for Scotland.
The idea for a national tree was raised at the Scottish Parliament's public petitions committee earlier this year by a member of the public.
Over the next three months the public will have the opportunity to say whether they would like a designated tree and if so, which species.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Over 35,000 votes were cast in the bid to name the new Forth Bridge which underlined the extent to which these campaigns capture the public’s imagination.
“Hopefully a similar response will be received when the consultation opens to name Scotland’s National Tree.
The Scots Pine looks to have taken the early lead but there are many other candidates and I would hope that residents in Perth and Kinross, Fife, Stirling and Clackmannanshire get involved in the process as there are some worthy contenders within the Mid-Scotland and Fife region.”
