Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has met with SSE to discuss their plans to offload 500 members of staff.
SSE recently announced they were seeking 500 candidates for voluntary redundancy (mostly for those wishing to take early retirement), as per plans to reduce their cost base. SSE employs 20,000 people across the UK including 2,500 in Perth and current estimates suggest around 50-100 people will leave their posts in Perth.
Generous redundancy terms have resulted in SSE being oversubscribed with applications for voluntary redundancy.
Murdo also had time to talk about SSE’s recently announced price freeze and current investment projects in Scotland.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said;
“I welcomed the chance to meet with SSE and gain some clarity on their current investment projects and redundancy plans.
“I was initially very concerned to learn that SSE were looking to reduce employee numbers by 500. However, I was reassured to learn of the generous redundancy terms and to hear that SSE have been oversubscribed with workers looking to take on voluntary redundancy.
“SSE is a valued employer in Perth and remains central to the economic future of the city. Therefore it was pleasing to hear assurances regarding the future of its employees which I’m sure will be warmly welcomed by the thousands who work for them.
“Finally, I would like to welcome SSE’s price freeze which will hopefully limit the burden of high energy prices on both residents and businesses across the region.”
