Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has welcomed the latest planning refusal for the Grundon Incinerator proposal in Perth.
The £100 million project was dramatically turned down by Scottish Ministers, but Grundon Estates Manager Andrew Short said that the group was “considering our position in terms of our next steps.”
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“The people of Perth have shown real community spirit in working together to defeat a proposal that would have dramatically altered the face of Perth, for the worse.
“The revived application was still far too close to the city centre and for that reason alone it was completely inappropriate.
“The incinerator application fiasco has drained a great deal of time and public money from Perth and should never have been allowed to continue for as long as it did.
“I would hope that this case can serve as an example for local residents battling opportunistic wind farm applications, in that both the Local Authority and Government Ministers must listen to legitimate local concerns.
“The residents of Perth took a deep sigh of relief yesterday and hopefully this spells the end for what has been a tortuous process. Grundon now need to get the message that their plans are not welcome here.”
