Transport Minister Keith Brown has informed Murdo Fraser that a Working Group has been established to oversee the delivery of all aspects of the Bannockburn 2014 event and has assured the member that no concerns have been raised surrounding event management arrangements for the event.
Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser had previously raised concerns on congestion and event transportation with Deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.
As an MSP for the Stirling area and Convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s, Economy, Energy and Tourism Committee Murdo Fraser has cast a watchful eye over preparations for the 2014 event.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“The Scottish Government must understand the logistics behind staging such a large event at Bannockburn and need to be fully aware of the challenges this presents.
“This is a great opportunity for Stirling to market itself to the world and the Scottish Government must ensure that the correct preparations are made that allows the event to be a success.
“The Committee I chair in the Scottish Parliament (Economy, Energy and Tourism) has just taken an extensive evidence session from key stakeholders involved in the event, hopefully these views will serve to further enlighten those charged with event delivery.
“2014 will be a massive year for Scotland and I hope that the Bannockburn event will remain free from political interference or demonstrations as it could become a focal point for protestors in the run-up to the independence referendum.”
