Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser and Perth City Councillor Alexander Stewart are to visit Murrays Bakery in Perth on Saturday to meet proprietor Linda Hill and enjoy the world’s best Scotch pie.
Earlier this week Murrays Bakery in Perth was crowned World Scotch Pie Champion, beating off 100 other hopefuls and Murdo subsequently lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament commending their effort which has attracted cross-party support.
Murdo and Alexander will be visiting at 11am on Saturday the 17th of January.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“The staff at Murrays Bakers have worked extremely hard to win this award and I can’t wait to meet the team behind the World’s best Scotch Pie.
“It is just over ten years since a Perthshire bakery last took this prize and it is great to see it return to the “Big County”.
“2015 marks Visit Scotland’s ‘Year of Food and Drink’ and I can think of no better tourist attraction than a chance to get your hands on the world’s best Scotch pie.”
Commenting Cllr Alexander Stewart and Scottish Conservative Candidate for Perth and North Perthshire said:
“It’s vital that we support local businesses, like Murrays Bakery, and I am looking forward to another taste of their prize-winning pies.
“Local residents have known for some time that Murray’s pies were something special, with regular customers known to buy two at a time such is their appeal. I would like to wish the bakery all the best for the future.”
