Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser has today called for young people throughout Perth and Kinross, Fife, Clackmannanshire and Stirling to apply to become Young Placemakers. Murdo spoke after being photographed endorsing the campaign with Petra Biberbach, Chief Executive of Planning Aid for Scotland, and Kyle Thornton, the MSYP for Glasgow Southside and vice-chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament.
Young Placemakers is an initiative run by Planning Aid for Scotland, the independent and impartial organisation which enables citizens to shape their communities and engage more effectively with planning.
The campaign aims to recruit a network of 12 motivated young community leaders who will champion active citizenship and create a stronger voice for young people. Increasing involvement in the planning system will give young people a central role in the creation of Scotland’s future places.
Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“This is a very worthwhile initiative by Planning Aid for Scotland and I’d encourage as many young people as possible from Perth and Kinross, Fife, Clackmannanshire and Stirling to apply. Representation in this campaign could help youngsters throughout our area to become involved in the decisions which will shape the way their communities look for the rest of their lives.
“I’d encourage any interested youngsters to go to www.youngplacemakers.com and apply now!”
Petra Biberbach added:
"Young people are the missing piece in the planning jigsaw. They are currently disengaged with the process of planning and development, which plays a vital role in shaping the villages, towns, cities and country in which they will live, work and raise their family.”
Kyle Thornton MSYP said:
“As a Community Councillor and elected MSYP, I know how important planning can be in shaping the places where we live. I'd encourage every young person to check out the details, apply to be a placemaker and make a real difference in their local communities."
