Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser, has slammed the SNP’s flagship “White Paper” on independence.
Despite running to 650 pages the document has done little to dispel the question marks that still hang over the Yes campaign, with little more than two pages dedicated to important issues such as Scotland’s future currency.
Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“The SNP have been building towards this moment for nearly 80 years and unfortunately despite the ‘White Papers’ considerable length, it was far too low on detail and too heavy on assumption, assertion and bluster.
“Important issues have been totally glossed over in the paper, with the SNP instead making a huge number of spending commitments without explaining how they would pay for them. The reality is that if the SNP want to pay for their promises they will either have to slash public spending or introduce a massive hike in taxes.
“I know that many people in Perth and Kinross, Fife, Stirling and Clackmannanshire will be extremely disappointed with what they’ve read today. We currently enjoy having the best of both worlds as a valued partner in the United Kingdom and this paper totally fails to convince why we should give that up.”
“Detail on taxes, pensions and currency are too thin considering the gravity of what is at stake.”
