Renewed calls from Transform Scotland for a direct-rail link between Perth and Edinburgh and an inter-city hub at the existing station have been backed by Murdo Fraser MSP.
A recent poll also showed that 91% of Scots believe that journeys by rail between Scottish cities should be just as fast as those made by car.
In their recently released inter-city express brochure Transform Scotland have renewed their call for a direct link between Perth and Edinburgh and have called for Perth Station to be transformed into a new hub with retail, tourist and business units.
Murdo Fraser MSP said:
“Rail links from Edinburgh to Perth were faster 100 years ago than they are today and that is simply not good enough.
“Transform Scotland have campaigned hard for a modern transport network throughout the country and it is high-time the Scottish Government got on and delivered it.
“Perth station has recently gone through an important refurbishment programme but more can be done to make the station an essential hub for rail passengers north of the central belt.
“I would encourage the Scottish Government to look at the Transform Scotland proposals, with a view to carrying out a feasibility study for the direct link between Perth and Edinburgh.”
