Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has welcomed the launch of Transform Scotland’s 'Inter-City Express' rail campaign which aims to build support for a 'rail revolution' in Scotland.
The Mid Scotland & Fife MSP has been leading the campaign for direct rail link between Perth and Edinburgh.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
“I very much welcome the launch of Transform Scotland’s 'Inter-City Express' campaign and congratulate them on an impressive piece of work which identifies the interventions which are needed in our rail network to bring all of Scotland’s cities together.
“These projects are not going to come to fruition overnight but it is time that we saw some ambition from the SNP Scottish Government for Scotland and the need to deliver the modern integrated transport system which will be necessary in the future to connect the country and deliver growth and prosperity in the economy.
Commenting on her campaign for direct rail link between Perth and Edinburgh, Liz Smith MSP said:
“I am disappointed that the SNP Scottish Government have rejected calls for a new feasibility study to look again at reopening a direct rail link between Edinburgh and Perth.
“The reopening a direct rail link between Edinburgh and Perth could bring many benefits not only to the local economy in Perthshire, Kinross-shire and Fife but also in delivering an improved high speed rail network north of the central belt.
“I hope Transform Scotland’s 'Inter-City Express' rail campaign can start a real debate about the vital future investment which is needed to deliver a 21st Century Scottish rail network.”
