Perthshire based MSP, Liz Smith has raised the possibility that SNP Scottish Government Ministers may be asked to call in the proposed Perth Crematorium Garden of Remembrance road if changes are not made to the route of the road.
The Perthshire MSP has called on Perth and Kinross Council to re-think the proposed route of the road through the Garden of Remembrance at Perth Crematorium.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said:
"It is now really urgent that Perth and Kinross Council acknowledges the extent of the anger being expressed in the local community. It is not too late for a last minute alteration to the proposed route and that is what needs to happen without any delay.
“For hundreds of people whose loved ones lie in the cemetery or who are remembered by the memorials within the gardens, the current proposal to build the new road at that particular location is wholly inappropriate. They feel very badly let down by a council which has not paid any attention to the strength of feeling in the local community and who seem destined to go ahead whatever the sensitivities.
“As planning permission has not yet been granted by Perth & Kinross Council I hope that they will listen to local concerns and re-think the propose section of the road.
“I also believe that such a high level of public outcry has been seen with regards to this proposal that there are strong grounds for the Scottish Government to call in the application if Perth and Kinross Council must listen to the people and re-think the part of the road that affects the crematorium and Garden of Remembrance.”
