Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife has expressed concern following the publication of the Recorded Crimes and Offences Involving Firearms which has shown that the number of offences in which a firearm was alleged to have been involved in Fife increased by 63 % from 19 (2001-12 to 31 in (2012-23). Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said: “It is deeply concerning that the latest figures for firearms offences show has shown a large increase in the Fife area with a 63% increase in the number of recorded crimes and offences involving firearms in the space of a year. “SNP Ministers have been quick to point towards the positive picture across the central belt where the overall number of recorded crimes and offences involving firearms has fallen. The fact that Fife has seen a considerable increase cannot go unchallenged and I will be seeking answers from the Cabinet Secretary for Justice on what steps are being taken to make communities across Fife safer.”
